Green Gram Pulao - Recipe Book


Green gram /
moong bean is a healthy choice to make a wholesome meal.

  1. Basmati rice long-1 cup

  2. Green Gram- ½ cup

  3. Oil/ghee-2 tbsp

  4. Onion thinly sliced-1

  5. Ginger garlic crushed-1 tsp

  6. Lemon juice-1 tbsp

  7. Garam masala powder-1 tbsp

  8. Pepper powder-1tsp

  9. Cumin powder- ¼ tsp

  10. Salt-to taste

  11. Curry leaves-1 spring

  12. Coriander leaves chopped / spring

  13. Boiling water- 1 3/4 cup)

  • Soak green gram in
    water for at least 3 hours.

  • Drain it and pressure
    cook with ¼ cup of water and little salt for one whistle in medium-high flame.

  • Open the lid after
    completely releases its pressure. (dried out the excess water; if any).

  • Keep it aside.

  • Wash and soak basmati rice in water
    for 30 minutes. Drain it.

  • Heat ghee in a pan and sauté onions
    until transparent.

  • Add ginger garlic crushed and sauté
    for few seconds.

  • Make the flame to very low and add
    curry leaves, cumin powder, pepper powder and garam masala.

  • Add drained rice in to the pan and
    sauté for a minute.

  • Add lemon juice, salt, cooked green
    gram and boiling water in to it.

  • Mix well and cover pressure cooks it for
    1 whistle on medium flame and open the lid after 20 minutes. Give a gentle mix
    and serve hot with pickle or raitha.
